Stephen Fry once said in the British TV-show "QI": in Estonia, it is believed that if you point your finger at a rainbow, it will fall off. Whether it is true or not, this year Black Nights Film Festival will fearlessly point its finger at a rainbow and present a programme of queer films.
Films about, by and for gays and lesbians have not been strangers to BNFF programme. Since the first festival 10 years ago, we have screened classics like "All about My Mother", "Taboo", "8 Women" and "Breakfast on Pluto", with masters François Ozon, Gus van Sant and Pédro Almodovar as household names in our programme. Year 2007 sees many of them returing including familiar directors Ferzan Ozpetek, Angelina Maccarone and Christophe Honoré.

For a month or so more Europe is celebrating the Year of Equal Opportunities for All. By drawing attention to gay and lesbian characters on film we hope to fight clichés and stereotypes, predjudices and discrimination. But enough said, as the selection of films speaks for itself:
• Two roads to self discovery from Argentina: trans-gendered youngster in XXY and bored teenager attracted to his best friend in GLUE;
• Portraits of glamour-connected fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld and photographer Annie Leibovitz;
• Love in Korea: amongst stage actors in 15th century court in KING AND THE CLOWN, and between an innocent orphan-turned-escort and his rich client in a modern city in NO REGRET;
• Incestuous relationship between socialite mother and her gay son in SAVAGE GRACE;
• Epic from Egypt, THE YACOUBIAN BUILDING where in the gallery of characters a rich journalist falls for a young soldier;
• Over-the top high school comedy DASEPO NAUGHTY GIRLS where the popular guy makes moves on his class-mate’s brother;
• German road-movie VIVERE with two sisters and a heart-broken lady finding consolation from the harsh world;
• A love story between German student and her Turkish lodger in search of her long lost mother, in award-winning THE EDGE OF HEAVEN;
• French sublime coming-of-age film WATER LILIES features a team of synchronised swimmers - girls in bathing-suits have eyes for boys and each-other;
• The circle of friends in Italian SATURNO CONTRO faces both joys and sorrows as homo- and heterosexual couples make up and break up with tragedy approaching;
• Musical tour-de-force from the streets of Paris - LES CHANSONS D’AMOUR proves colourfully that love is truly gender-blind.

The nights are still black and the carpet is red, the film programme will present all colours of the rainbow at their fullest.
